PRESS RELEASE (Embargo until 7am EST on January 23, 2011)
EMS Showcases Exciting Innovative Technology to Improve Medical Simulation Training
at IMSH 2011
(EXTON, PA, January 23, 2011) – Education Management Solutions (EMS), the leader
in simulation management software and audio-video technology, today introduced its
latest products: SIM-EMR, SIMXpress, and Check-in Kiosk at the International Meeting
on Simulation in Healthcare (IMSH) 2011 conference, Jan 23-25, in New Orleans, LA.
EMS’ SIM-EMR is a simulated electronic medical records application that prepares
both nursing and medical students to chart electronically, similar to what they
would encounter in a real clinical setting. Training on SIM-EMR will provide many
benefits when students practice as physicians and nurses. Physicians will be able
to minimize duplicate tests by seeing what other physicians have ordered; view past
visits to improve patient care; and avoid legibility problems with other doctors’
handwriting.
Similarly, nurses would be able to eliminate duplicate order entries, provide more
legible progress notes for nurses on succeeding shifts, spend less time documenting so that there
is more time at the bedside, and have access to a more structured and organized
note system for greater clarity.
EMS’ SIMXpress, a robust simulation management solution with digital AV recording
capability on wheels, allows students to receive enhanced didactic teaching of medical
intervention concepts, patient safety, and real-world medical outcomes through repetition,
measurement, skills assessment, and debriefing. SIMXpress provides a range of benefits
to streamline and enhance any medical simulation-training program.
Many simulation and clinical skills centers are required to justify their need for
the space, equipment, and personnel that will provide students the optimal learning
environment and experience. Keeping track of who is using the simulation center and for what duration has become a challenge.
EMS’ Check-in Kiosk automates the manual, labor-intensive, paper-based processes
that are prone to errors. The Check-in Kiosk allows institutions to collect and
trend room usage and equipment utilization data quickly and easily, satisfying both
internal and external clients' requirements for usage reports that result in timely
payment.

Cutting-Edge Technology Designed and Installed by EMS at A. T. Stills Kirksville
College of Osteopathic Medicine
Malvern, PA June 28, 2007 – Education Management Solutions (EMS) announced today
at the American Association of Colleges of Osteopathic Medicine (AACOM) meeting
in Baltimore, MD, the completion of Phase 1 installation at the world’s first osteopathic
medical school, A.T. Still Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine (ATSU / KCOM).
Renowned for healthcare education and multidisciplinary healthcare, ATSU /KCOM has
given its Standardized Patient (SP) a boost with EMS’ cutting edge performance evaluation
software and integrated digital audio visual system.
“Choosing EMS was a collaborative effort between administrators, the IT department
and the directors of the SP and Simulation programs,” said Dena Higbee, Director
of the Standardized Patient Center. “Having someone like EMS who fully understands
the operation and needs of an SP program was beneficial to me as I first started
using their Total Skills Center™ (TSC) application.”
The Standardized Patient Center at ATSU / KCOM is equipped with eight exam rooms
used by more than 170 medical students and 120 SPs. By the end of the student’s
third year, they will have seen approximately 40 SP cases designed to test their
clinical and communications skills.
“A benefit to using the EMS software is that everything is located in one program
-- case information, checklist items, date of creation, and so on. We’re no longer
paper-bound. The creation of checklists has been expedited, simplified, and is more
consistent because faculty can select items from a categorized library. In addition,
it’s a lot simpler to run reports on a student’s performance. I can run as many
reports as I want to gain a different view of the encounter. I can also export raw
data into Excel for those instructors who choose to do more statistical analysis,”
says Higbee.
Completion of the Phase II Simulation program at ATSU / KCOM is slated to coincide
with the grand opening of their new facility in fall ’07. This facility will also
be home to a number of high-performance simulators.

System helps students build client‐management skills and confidence
Phoenix, AZ. And Exton, PA, Jan 11, 2012 – University of Phoenix and Education
Management Solutions (EMS) today announced that University of Phoenix has enhanced
its Phoenix‐based Master of Science in Counseling program with the addition of EMS’
system, Total Counseling, a training, assessment and debriefing software that enables
educators to easily evaluate students' progress in the clinical environment, leading
to better student and client outcomes.
The system has been installed in the University of Phoenix Counseling Skills Center
in Phoenix, Ariz., where the program’s students and faculty provide community members
with free counseling in areas including mental health, wellness, multicultural concerns
and marriage and family counseling.
“For more than 20 years, University of Phoenix has been an innovation leader in

Total Counseling allows users to build complete electronic client files containing

The ability to record and debrief real and simulated counseling sessions in a safe
environment allows faculty to monitor and help their students develop competencies
and client management skills, while ensuring compliance with protocol.
Some of the benefits of EMS’ Total Counseling include:
- Tagging/bookmarking videos with comments for counselor feedback/supervision and
behavior observation research
- Eliminating paper‐based activities and streamlining processes
- Automating the scheduling and reservation of counseling rooms and participants
- Ensuring that client files are secured to a HIPAA‐compliant level
- Enabling data collection and analysis of clinical outcomes

Standards explicitly requires audiovideotaping and/or live supervision of a student’s
interactions with clients. This endorsement validates the importance of digital
recording of counseling and role‐playing sessions as a central tool in counselor
education.
“We believe that any counseling practicum clinic, university counselor education
program, or university counseling center dedicated to training excellence will realize
substantial benefits by incorporating our integrated audio‐video recording system
and the HIPAA compliant, cloud‐based counseling management solution,” said Anurag
Singh, President and CEO of Education Management Solutions. “I’m confident that
the result will be a more productive learning experience, delivering improved skills
and clinical outcomes.”

trends and applications in mental health counseling. Course curriculum is designed
