EMS’ breakthrough technology for clinical simulation training provides educators and learners a rich user experience

(EXTON, PA, January 24, 2013) As part of an ongoing emphasis on leveraging the latest technologies to maximize user experience, EMS, a global leader in simulation management solutions for healthcare providers and educators, today announced the showcasing of Orion at the IMSH 2013 conference (Jan 27-29) in Orlando, FL. Orion is EMS’ next generation simulation management platform for clinical training programs focused on improving learners’ skills and optimizing patient outcomes.

“We’re excited about showcasing Orion at IMSH. Orion is the result of a synergy between our customers and the latest technologies,” says Anurag Singh, President and CEO. “Our philosophy for the past 19 years has been to listen and address the needs of our customers as they grow and expand their simulation training initiatives.”

Some of Orion’s capabilities include:
• Increased choice for users – provides quick access to application functionality with just three clicks, and enables easy search ability on every screen
• Easy management for center operators – offers an integrated single platform solution for simulation training with mannequins and patient-actors
• Improved user experience – delivers the most feature functionality of any product in the simulation management space
• More flexibility using mobile devices – delivers streaming video, the ability to complete performance assessments and surveys, and manage video recordings

EMS has been the driving force behind a number of innovations that continue to move the industry forward with new ideas and breakthrough technologies, such as Orion.

Nassau Community College’s New Simulation Lab Enhances Clinical Skills

by EMSBLOG Editor October 25, 2012

Nassau Community College (NCC) raised the bar on nursing education yesterday with the grand opening of its new Life Sciences Building. The 74,000 square-foot building houses six practical skills nursing training rooms and a computerized hospital simulation lab. The building is also equipped with advanced simulation management technology from EMS, enhancing clinical skills training for improved student outcomes, and leading to better delivery of patient care in a real clinical environment.

Dr. Kenneth Saunders, NCC's Officer-in-Charge says of the project: "Our students' hands-on familiarity with this equipment will make for a much more seamless transition from the classroom to the workplace. The prospect of such a seamless transition will both highlight the attractiveness of our graduates to potential employers and prepare the stage for improved patient outcomes in a clinical setting."

Part of the State University of New York, Nassau Community College offers 24,000 full- and part-time students, plus 15,000 continuing and professional students, the chance to advance their education.

Nassau Community College nursing faculty will use EMS' simulation management technology to record simulation sessions and provide feedback to students. The EMS technology will also enable instructors to document and track student learning outcomes and review their progress, giving a better indication of whether a nursing student will transfer learned skills to work with actual patients.

In today's technology-rich environment, nurse educators need to be up-to-date on the latest innovations in simulation.

By digitally capturing a simulated event followed by debriefing and evaluation, simulation training provides a hands-on opportunity to improve nursing knowledge, enhance critical thinking and reflective learning, and increase the understanding of the benefits of simulation related technology.

EMS' (Education Management Solutions) web-based simulation management solutions are designed to meet the most demanding needs of standardized patient and high fidelity simulator training environments, making it the most intuitive, feature-rich, and powerful technology in the industry for recording, center operations management, and performance evaluation. EMS provides audio-video and learning management solutions for fixed environments and for on-the-go team training. Visit www.EMS-works.com

Webinar discussion: Standardized Patient Simulation: Idea Through Evaluation

by EMSBLOG Editor October 3, 2012

We had a great response to the webinar (Oct 3) "Standardized Patient Simulation: Idea Through Evaluation" by Linda Wilson, Assistant Dean for Special Projects, Simulation and CNE Accreditation, Drexel University College of Nursing and Health Professions.

Abstract: This webinar will present an overview of standardized patient simulation, including case development, development of case evaluation criteria, standardized patient training, and incorporation of simulation into the curriculum. An easy-to-use template for standardized patient simulation case development will also be presented.

Here’s your chance to continue the conversation. Post your questions/comments here and get a response.
