Continue the discussion: "Smart, Creative Planning for Flexible Clinical Simulation Centers"

by EMSBLOG Editor May 8, 2013

Presented by Richard Pizzi, AIA, VP, and healthcare design principal for Lavallee Brensinger Architects.

We had a great response to today's webinar. Feel free to post your questions/comments for Richard in the comments box below.

Abstract: This interactive webinar will explore the planning, programming, and design of clinical simulation centers. We will discuss a collaborative and inclusive process to define your goals and create a space program that accommodates all simulation activities. The webinar will discuss the design of flexible, multi-functional simulation labs and the spatial relationships between labs and support space. The webinar will also review the integration of simulation, AV, and medical equipment as well as lessons learned and current/future trends from active simulation centers.

Richard Pizzi, AIA, VP, is a healthcare design principal for Lavallee Brensinger Architects regional healthcare design firm. Rich has specialized in healthcare design for nearly 19 years. For the past 6 years, he has focused on the research, programming, and design of clinical simulation centers. During this time, Rich has programmed and designed clinical simulation centers for large academic medical centers, community hospitals, medical schools, and nursing schools. His efforts have also included first-hand training observations, site visits, and post-occupancy reviews. Rich is a member of the Society for Simulation in Healthcare.

April Webinar: "Scenario Innovation: Programming Patient Outcomes in Simulation"

by EMSBLOG Editor April 3, 2013

Presented by H. Michael Young, Simulation Technology Specialist, Tarleton State University.

We had an overwhelming response to today's webinar. Feel free to post your questions/comments for Michael in the comments box below.

Abstract: as simulation matures within the context of healthcare education, training and assessment, the need for standardized case scenarios continues to rise. Much work has been done around this topic, and a market for pre-programmed scenarios has emerged. Faculty often don't have the time to develop scenarios from scratch, let alone program the outcomes as well. This webinar will address the challenges common to on-the-fly operation, and how programming can automate processes. Ultimately, the programmed scenario functions as a "check-list" aiding in navigation during debriefing. Learner interventions are "checked off" and the programming does the work, freeing the educator/operator to focus on assessing learners. At the end of the webinar, attendees will have a clearer picture of how programming can effectively reduce preparation time, standardize patient responses to learner interventions, and improve fidelity through team work.

Continue the discussion: Is Calculating an ROI Impossible?

by EMSBLOG Editor February 7, 2013

We had a great response to the webinar (Feb 6) "Is Calculating an ROI Impossible?" - presented by Amar P. Patel, MS, NREMT-P, CFC, Director, Center for Innovative Learning, WakeMed Health & Hospitals.

Abstract: There are variables that must be considered when determining if simulation will impact patient safety, make changes in our students' ability to understand and apply the knowledge they gain, and determine if it is a cost-effective way of providing education. Simply put, is calculating an ROI impossible? This webinar will focus on how simulation programs can generate an ROI without using complex calculations. In the end, you will be able to show a return on investment simply by using student feedback, faculty buy-in, and program metrics.
