The Society for Simulation in Healthcare (SSH) announces the launch of its new multidisciplinary program to certify healthcare simulation educators. “Certification is a voluntary process that will be a service to our community and will confirm the knowledge, skills, and abilities essential to instructors in the field of simulation,” says President Beth Mancini. RN, PhD, Professor at the University of Texas at Arlington College of Nursing. Individuals who successfully complete the certification process will receive their Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator (CHSE) certification demonstrating their professional and educational accomplishments. The Association of Standardized Patient Educators (ASPE) and The International Nursing Association for Clinical Simulation and Learning (INACSL) support the CHSE program.
Beginning June 4, 2012, the CHSE pilot phase will open for applications. The first 200 applicants receive an incentive rate of $350. To qualify for CHSE, applicants must have two-years of healthcare simulation related experience in education, research or administration. A detailed application, professional references and an online examination are required. Upon completion of the pilot phase, new application rates will be established and applicants will be accepted at any time. Visit ssih.org/certification for the CHSE pilot application, requirements and detailed information.
SSH is a multi-disciplinary, multi-specialty, international society with ties to all medical specialties, nursing, allied health, paramedical personnel, simulation technologist, simulation technician and industry. CHSE was developed in concert with the SSH mission to lead in facilitating excellence in multi-specialty healthcare simulation modalities. The CHSE program has been developed over a number of years with the input of individuals representing a wide variety of backgrounds and experience in healthcare simulation.
